Balustrade installation

Balustrade is comprised of three components:

  1. Top rail
  2. Base rail
  3. Baluster

Balusters, base rails and top rails are made to standards lengths and should be cut and drilled to length on site by installer

Installation steps:

  1. Lay out the path of the balustrade. Cut the base and top rails to fit.
  2. Base rail should be set in place using a construction adhesive.
  3. Balusters should be set in place using adhesive. On elevated areas or high traffic areas, each baluster should be drilled and doweled to base and top rails.
  4. Top rail should be glued and doweled in place.
  5. After adhesive sets, joints should be caulked or pointed.

Note:

Professional advice should be taken where safetey, building regulation or local laws are applicable.

ADHESIVES: There are three varieties as listed below. Each will work well for baluster installation. Follow adhesive manufacturer instructions and USE EXTREME CARE NOT TO GET EXCESS ADHESIVE ON THE EXPOSED STONE FACES.

  1. Construction adhesive: i.e. Liquid Nails
  2. Latext mortars: Mortar with an adhesive ad mixture (i.e. Acryl 60, custom products) available through tile or masonry suppliers
  3. Epoxy: Any of the epoxies for stone or concrete. Somewhat expensive and more difficult to handle than others but very strong

NOTE: None of the instructions above are intended to suepersede the instructions or specifications of the architect, engineer, designer or other professional. They are merely some of our observations. No warranty of their suitability for any installation is expressed or implied. They should be checked for compliance with building code. Consult an engineer or architect.

Caution: Like other fine products, balustrade can chip or break if subjected to hard impact. BE CAREFUL!
